Works by local artists to be showcased in 'August Light'

Opening reception set for exhibit featuring New Milford artists, others

Artists from New Milford and surrounding towns in Litchfield and Fairfield counties, as well as Duchess County in New York, will have their work featured in the "August Light 2025" exhibit in neighboring Kent in August.

The exhibit, presented by the Sherman Artists Association, will open with a reception with the artists Friday, August. 8, from 6 to 8 p.m. After the reception, the exhibit may be seen Thursdays through Saturdays from 1 to 5 p.m. and Sundays from noon to 4 p.m. through Saturday, Aug. 30, at the Kent Art Association at 21 S. Main St., Kent.

The works of 40 artists will be featured; more than 130 paintings, photographs, mixed media, fused glass and sculpture been accepted into the juried show. 

Awards for the best in each category will be announced at the opening reception.

Both new and established artists created an assortment of landscapes, portraits, and abstracts of life, whimsy and beauty. 

The judge is Kim Zarney, an illustrator, graphic designer, and advertising agency creative director with a fine arts degree in painting and printmaking.

For the past 15 years, he has pursued a fine arts career focusing on monochromatic works on paper. Inspired by elements of the natural world, Zarney’s work has been seen in over 70 national and regional juried art exhibitions and is included in numerous public and private collections.
