’Tis the time of year when individuals and families gear up for autumn activities.

And New Milford is ripe with offerings.

Among them is the New Milford Apple Fest, which will be held Saturday, Sept. 27, on the New Milford Green.

The fifth annual event run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

An opening ceremony will kick off the festivities with the crowning of the Apple Festival king and queen at 10 a.m. at the bandstand.

Vic and Cathy Consaga, who were nominated by their peers at the New Milford Senior Center, will make up the royal court and will officially open the festival that has become a favorite pastime for residents and visitors.

Attendees of all ages will discover an assortment of activities at the festival.

They will include vendors, children’s games, music, kids’ contests, the sale of apple foods, and an apple bakeoff.

Apple foods such as apple pies, apple cider donuts, apple empanadas, apple churros, apple crepes, apple ice cream and other foods will be available at the event.

The majority of the more than 70 vendors will be crafters, however, many nonprofits will participate.

Bounce houses and entertainment for children and families will be on site, north of the bandstand.

On neighboring Church Street, several food trucks will serve up food.

In addition, those looking to learn how apple cider is made, an old-time cider press will be on display, and apple cider will be served.

Registration for the apple bakeoff is being accepted.

Those interested in participating must make a homemade apple dessert (pie, cake, cookies, pudding, etc.). The recipe must accompany the entry.

The entry and recipe must be delivered to the bandstand on the Green the morning of the event at 11 a.m.

Judges will score on originality, presentation, and taste.

Awards will be presented at 2 p.m. at the bandstand, with prizes to be presented for best apple pie, best apple dessert, and most original recipe.
